India delivers humanitarian relief supplies to Vietnam

 

The Government of India, under its Operation Sadbhav (Goodwill), delivered emergency relief supplies to the Government of Vietnam on 15 September 2024 in a gesture of support to affected communities in several northern provinces of Vietnam in the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi. 

A consignment of 35 tons of humanitarian supplies from India were carried to Hanoi by a special Indian aircraft in the night of 15 September 2024. The relief goods comprise of essential items such as water filters/purifiers, blankets, mosquito nets, kitchen set collection, water storage tanks, buckets with taps, and solar lamps based on the needs of affected communities and feedback from authorities. The delivered consignment is valued at USD 1 million.

A few days back, the Prime Minister of India, H.E. Narendra Modi had conveyed sympathies and solidarity on behalf of the Government and the people of India to the Prime Minister of Vietnam, H.E. Pham Minh Chinh. India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar had also extended his sympathies to the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Vietnam, Mr. Bui Thanh Son on the loss and damage caused by the typhoon. 

The Government of India has stated that the humanitarian support to Vietnam is testament to the enduring close ties between the two countries, marked by our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Operation Sadbhav (Goodwill) is part of India’s broader effort to contribute to Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief within the ASEAN region, in line with its longstanding ‘Act East Policy’. 

The Ambassador of India to Vietnam handed over the relief supplies to Director General, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam for its National Disaster and Dyke Management Authority and representatives of Tuyen Quang province. On the occasion, Ambassador referred to widely-felt sympathy among the Indian community for people affected by Typhoon Yagi and noted that Indian businesses and community members have separately extended their support and contribution at various levels to the affected people and Vietnamese authorities.
