10th International Day of Yoga

The 10th International Day of Yoga (IDY) will be observed on 21 June 2024. To promote awareness about health benefits of Yoga, the Embassy of India, Hanoi and the Consulate General of India, Ho Chi Minh city will be partnering with various cities/provinces of Viet Nam and other organizations to hold yoga awareness and demonstration events across the country. The theme of 10th International Day of Yoga in 2024 is “Yoga for Self and Society”.

2. Yoga is about five thousand year old tradition from ancient India that combines physical, mental and spiritual pursuits to a harmony between the body and the mind, between human and nature.  In recognition of its health benefits for the world population, ten years back the United Nations General Assembly declared 21 June every year to be marked as the International Day of Yoga (IDY), which was proposed by India and co-sponsored by Viet Nam.

3. The immense popularity of Yoga throughout Viet Nam demonstrates wide understanding about the benefits of practicing yoga and its adoption by the friendly people of Viet Nam, in line with a growing global trend. Yoga also represents an important cultural and people-to-people connection between India and Viet Nam.

4. It is expected that the International Day of Yoga in 2024 will be observed in about 40 provinces of Viet Nam with participation of tens of thousands of practitioners. The 10th IDY public event in Hanoi is planned on Thursday, 20 June 2024 at Quan Ngua Sports Complex, Van Cao/Ba Dinh Street. Some other provinces/cities hosting International Day of Yoga in 2024 include: Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Thai Nguyen, Quang Ninh, Thai Binh, Ninh Binh, Ninh Thuan, Lam Dong, Lai Chau, Vinh Long, Kon Tum, Dien Bien, Binh Thuan, Dak Lak, Dong Nai, Quang Binh, Quang Ngai, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Bien Hoa, Can Tho, Tien Giang, Bac Giang, Kien Giang, Quang Nam, Lao Cai, Khanh Hoa, Quang Ninh, Ben Tre, Quang Tri, Soc Trang, Nam Dinh, Dong Thap, Phu Yen, Hoa Binh, Thanh Hoa, Binh Dinh, Tuyen Quang.
